On September 27, 175 people joined Mayor Michael McGlynn, and State Representatives Paul Donato and Sean Garballey for the grand opening of the new STAR unit at Glen Ridge Nursing Care Center.
Attendees came from community organizations, local hospitals, medical practices and businesses to tour the new unit, which offers private, upgraded rooms, a gym, a spa, an Internet center and a cafe.
"Rehab can be challenging," said Glen Ridge Administrator Mike Bell. "We want to make sure our patients are as comfortable as possible while they recover. Our STAR unit offers concierge services, meals cooked to order, DVD players and other 'extras' to make their stay with us more pleasant."
Those present at the grand opening were in enthusiastic agreement. "The STAR unit at Glen Ridge is a beautiful and welcome addition to the physical and economic health of our community," said Mayor McGlynn.
Says Bell, "I think people have been looking for something like STAR - a rehab program that gives patients a little bit of 'pampering' and lifts their spirits. We all know rehab isn't a vacation ... but at Glen Ridge we're doing our best to make it more enjoyable."
Clearly, the STAR concept is a hit. In the days following the grand opening, referrals to Glen Ridge Nursing Care have tripled. "The word spread fast," said Bell. "Patients want to come here."
"It's an exciting time for Glen Ridge," he added "It's great to be in the forefront of the rehab revolution."
Glen Ridge Nursing Care Center offers both long-term and short-stay rehabilitation and skilled nursing care, including concierge level care in their new STAR rehab unit. For more information, call (781) 391-0800.
